Specialty Care and Regional Resources Development
The
goal of the Division of Specialty Care and Regional Resource Development
is to protect and improve the health, functioning and quality of
life of Maryland children and youth with special health care needs
(CYSHCN) through programs and policies that increase access to
needed health care and family support services, and promote the
development of family-centered, community-based, coordinated systems
of care for these children and their families.
Current Programs and Activities
- Locating Local County Contacts for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
- Using the Resource Map by County, locate resources for children and youth with special health care needs, including health care and health insurance, therapeutic services, educational services, respite care, etc.
- Partnership with local health departments to improve access to care through care coordination and outreach specialty clinics;
- Payment for specialty care and related services for low income, uninsured CYSHCN through Children’s Medical Services;
- Funding for special clinical services and wraparound care (ex. social work, nutrition) at major Maryland hospitals serving CYSHCN;
- Provision of funding and support to local health departments for respite care;
- Funding and support for medical child care for medically fragile infants and young children;
- Leadership for promoting quality care for CYSHCN through medical home improvement;
- Education and development of resources related to health care transition for youth with special health care needs;
- Linking CYSHCN and their families with services throughout the state;
- Collaboration with the Maryland State Department of Education and Medicaid related to early detection of developmental disorders and early intervention services;
- Promotion of parent-professional partnerships by supporting and collaborating with The Parents’ Place of Maryland (Maryland Family Voices);
- Collection of data and information about the needs of Maryland CYSHCN and their families.
