Maryland Childhood Lead
Screening Program
Educational Programs
This is a hands-on program that focuses on the family of the
toddler. This program teaches family and caregivers of toddlers about
SIDS, asthma and lead poisoning in about a 2 hour program. The
program, funded by the Maryland State Department of Education
has been well received in the community and has been very effective
at a hard to reach population of informal caregivers.
High School Voluntary Curriculum- Environmental Health
This computer/power point based program focuses on the high
school student. The environmental health curriculum demonstrates
the lessons for grades 9-12 in lead poisoning and lead prevention. The
curriculum is part of Maryland's voluntary science curriculum
in environmental health and can be taught to children in grades
9-12.
Maryland Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning
There are some items created for preschoolers in use by our
Maryland Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning. Their program
uses a short Sesame Street film called "Lead Away" that
teaches young children thru songs and repetition about the
dangers of lead. The Coalition also has Derek the Dinosaur-
a coloring book full of short info on lead poisoning. The
Coalition can be contacted directly for further information
at 800-523-LEAD.
For Further Information about lead exposure you may contact the Center for Maternal and Child Health at 410-767-6748, or your local health department.
