Maternal And Child Health

The Maternal & Child Health Program provides consultative services and materials development to state funded maternity clinics, other units within DHMH, managed care organizations, and outside agencies. The program currently centers around two smoking cessation programs, which provide counseling and self-help materials. Smoking Cessation in Pregnancy (SCIP) and Body Sense Teen Intervention offer patients problem-solving techniques, as well as methods to avoid relapse. Professional support and follow-up assistance are major components of these programs, which are both available through local health departments, Medicaid managed care providers, and state funded family planning clinics.
